Preventive dentistry is caring for your child’s teeth to keep them healthy. American Academy of Pediatric Dentists (AAPD) recommends your child receive a preventive dental checkup every six months– for full cleanings, examinations, and consultations for potential treatment. Professional dental cleanings help remove built-up plaque that is not removable using conventional brushing and flossing. Often, pediatric dentists are also capable of identifying potential problems that patients are not yet able to see or feel. When you maintain regular preventative dental appointments, you can stave off decay and gum disease and identify the beginnings of oral health problems before they become severe.
Our checkup appointments include the following:
Examination
Complete dental cleaning
X-rays of your child’s mouth
Fluoride application
Tips about oral hygiene, nutrition, and cavity prevention
Preventative Treatment Options
Fluoride Treatments
Fluoride treatment is an important way to prevent decay. A tooth-colored fluoride gel that adheres to the teeth is applied to your child’s teeth, and it helps remineralize and prevent decay.
Dental Sealants
Involves applying a thin protective coating on the chewing surface of the teeth to prevent cavities from forming.
Periodontal Care
Cleaning the pockets around the teeth to make sure the gums and surrounding bone are healthy. The procedure reduces the risk of inflammation or gum disease.
